AbstractAn extensive list of the larval hostplants of the Pterophoridae was compiled from available literature and specimen data. Notes on the feeding habits of each species are included where known. Following each hostplant and associated pterophorid name, a chronological listing of the corresponding literature is cited. An index to scientific plant names and a separate index to pterophorid names are given for cross reference. A systematic list of the included pterophorid species, synonyms, faunal regions, and host family codes is also presented. One new combination, Paraplatyptilia omissalis (Fletcher), is contained in the systematic list. Hosts are reported for 312 currently recognized species and numerous undetermined or undescribed species, all representing about a third of the world fauna. About 900 host species are listed. Major host familites are Asteraceae, Lamiaceae, Fabaceae, Plantaginaceae, Verbenaceae, and Dipsacaceae. Economic species and patterns of host use are discussed. |
